"OMG! You lived in Hawaii? Why on Earth are are you in Michigan?"
That's the number 1 response I get when people find out I lived in Hawaii.
Did you get island fever?
What's it like in Hawaii?
Did you love it?
Were you on the beach everyday?
It must be nice being a cop on a tropical island. Did you just surf all day?
Is there even crime in Hawaii?
Do you have any cool stories?
Im sure these are things you'd say as well... be honest. Unless you've been there you have no idea. However, even if you've been there you STILL have no idea.
If you've never been to Hawaii, you've always wanted to.
If you've been to Hawaii, you've always wanted to go back.
Even if you've been there multiple times as a visitor its hard to wrap your brain around what Hawaii is really like. Hawaii may be the most misunderstood place in the entire Country.
With millions of visitors every year, and over a million residents, Hawaii is the tropical oasis that also happens to be one of Americas largest cities. The Honolulu Police Department is the 17th largest police department in the country with over 2000 full time police officers working every single day. That's HUGE considering the island is only about 30 miles deep and 45 miles wide. On top of that, MOST of the island is uninhabitable mountainside. Then you have farms, freeways and waterways.
I started this blog to partner with my new podcast "Leaving the Dream" on Youtube. Here I'll write about my experiences and elaborate on videos I make. I'll also be answering questions left in my email or social media. This blog will mostly be about everything Hawaii, and Everything Law Enforcement. Since those are the things I know love the most. However I started this journey for my family and children. This way they'll know where they came from and what it took to get us here.
As a visitor here, I want you to learn and grow. I'm here to help and to interact with people who love the islands as much as I do. I want to meet and help people of all ages discover Aloha and experience it in their lives. I also want this to be a place where police officers can come to talk shop, and also help each other.
Thank you so much for being part of this community. There are plenty of ways that you can become more involved. You can contact me here on the site through the contact me page, or you can hit me up on social media.
Thanks for visiting, and I can't wait to connect.
Aloha,
Doug
